Customizing Your Golf Cart
Golf carts will always be at home at the course, but these compact, comfortable, and convenient machines have come a long way in the last few decades and now see use on various campuses, work sites, and even off roading trails! Of course, most stock golf carts will struggle with some of these uses, which is why it’s important to know how and why to customize your cart.
We here at Van Wert Carts want to help you get the most out of your tools and toys, so we’ve put together a few of our favorite golf cart customizations below. To learn more, or to see the golf carts we have for sale, contact our store in Van Wert, Ohio, today!
Style
If you like the look of your golf cart, power to you—they’re much sleeker and stylish today than even just a few years ago. However, if you want to up your aesthetic a bit, there are a number of ways to go about it. Sometimes it’s as simple as stenciling your name, a quote, or other words or numbers onto the body, or adding colorful decals and bumper stickers to add some flash.
For a more in-depth alteration, you might want to consider a “monarch front,” which is a body modification that makes your golf cart look more like a traditional car. The extra space this takes up then becomes handy storage space for extra cargo. You can even make your cart look like a limousine, roadster, or heavy-duty SUV!
Power
Another sticking point for many who are looking into buying a compact vehicle is the limited power golf carts often have. Generally speaking, they have a factory setting that limits their maximum speed to around 20 mph, but you can modify your cart to get up to 40 mph. For electric carts you’d have to overclock the batteries, add a secondary battery, or just replace the existing one with a bigger option.
Gas engines are also tricky and usually have certain systems on the motor to keep the golf cart at the factory-default speeds. You can tinker with that, get bigger gears, or just install a bigger engine to get higher speeds.
Remember that the cart is designed for lower speeds, though, so be careful with deceleration and turning if you increase the speed cap.
Other Accessories
There are plenty of other add-ons and systems you can install, including, but not limited to:
- LED headlights and tail lights (required for street-legal carts).
- Seat belts (also required for street-legal carts).
- Stereo systems for blasting your music
- Fold-down seats to increase occupancy without digging into storage space.
- Seat belts for safety.
- Windshield for safety.
- A horn to keep other vehicles and pedestrians aware of you.
