While summer is an amazing time to be out and using your golf cart, heat tends to put a strain on mechanical systems. It may be necessary to add additional steps to your regular maintenance routine in order to better protect your golf cart. That’s why Van Wert Carts has created this guide to summer golf cart maintenance.

Check the Tires

No matter what season it is, you should always be monitoring the air pressure in your golf cart’s tires. However, summer is a special case because excessive heat can cause the rubber in your cart’s tires to expand, greatly increasing your chances of suffering a blowout. When the weather gets hot, be sure to check your cart’s tires at least once every month and take appropriate action to deal with any damage you encounter.

Inspect the Battery

Heat forces batteries to work harder, so it is very important that you closely monitor your golf cart’s battery during the summer. This is especially true if your cart uses a wet-cell battery. These types of batteries require water in order to function properly, which becomes a problem when summer heat causes the water to evaporate more quickly. Be sure to regularly refill your wet-cell batteries with distilled water during warmer weather.

Protect the Paint

While protecting your golf cart’s paint job should not be your top priority, you should still take a few steps to protect the paint from fading. Luckily, all this really means is taking the time to apply wax to your cart after you wash it. The wax will provide a protective layer against sun damage, protecting your cart’s paint job.
